The best I ever read was a self-paced class from Synoptics (yes, it was
*that* long ago: probably '94. I think Bay Networks was formed from
Synoptics and Wellfleet in '95... Of course they've gone belly up and been
bought by Nortel, which isn't doing too well either...) on SNMP. It's on my
shelf at home, or I'd give you the title.
Mainly it was a discussion of the theory behind SNMP management, how the
protocol works, and what the vision was that went into it. Once you
understand those pieces then finding mibs is a piece of cake.
