There are better programs for this job. However, if you want to use
MRTG anyway I suggest to use the external program interface.
In a script you can try to connect to the server (using wget or so). If
you can reach the server, the current reachability is 100 percent. If you
cannot reach the server then the current reachability is 0 percent. Return
this number from your script. MRTG will use it and when it is consolidating
the numbers (for the weekly/monthly/yearly graph) it will display nice
percentages.
