The best I could get from cisco was to monitor the ports on the switch. Not
really useful when its a trunk but apparently the only thing you can do.

Subject: [mrtg] Cisco Catalyst 6509 with MSFC2/PFC Traffic Question
I have a Cisco 6509 switch with Supervisor 1A module that has the
integratedMSFC2 router and PFC unit. I am running Hybrid Catalyst 6509
supervisor code (6.3-2 non-IOS) and 12.1(8a) IOS on the MSFC2. Since the
6509 has layer 3 MLS switching always enabled, the MSFC2 is routing initial
packets (conversations) between two hosts on different IP networks.
Subsequent packets from the same source to the same destination have the
layer-3 packet done by a MLS cache installed on the 6509 Supervisor card
(notthe MSFC2 router). So here is the MRTG question:
When I issue commands to see the In/Out traffic statistics recorded by the
MSFC2 on a particular Vlan segment, I only see statistics for the initial
routed packet. This number is typically 12 packets per second In/Out. From
my previous installation before the 6509, I know routed packets ran
2000-7000packets per second on these same Vlans. So what OID do I monitor
the Supervisor MLS flow on? How do I determine what my layer 3 routed
traffic load is? If this is not possible to monitor because the layer-2
switch supervisor is doing layer-3 packet rewrites, how do I monitor with
MRTG a particular Vlan's traffic load on my 6509 GE interfaces that connect
to various access-layer Cisco Catalyst 5500 switches with GE uplinks to the
6509?
Has anybody out there explored this issue?
