I have released mrtg 2.9.18pre4

the releases should bring more error messages and saner behaviour
when targets do not respond.

   backout of the change from pre2
 * data cleanup ... if a value is unknown, then it is set to 'undef'
 * more robust 'error' handling for strange target return values
