[mrtg] LogDir set, but errors and warnings still appearing in Event log

Running MRTG 2.9.18pre3 on Windows 2000; my mrtg.cfg file lists:
### Global Config Options
WorkDir: F:\IT\public_html\apps\MRTG
LogDir: D:\Apps\mrtg-2.9.18pre3\log
RunAsDaemon: yes
Interval: 5

### Global Defaults
Options[_]: growright, bits
Refresh: 300

So, why is the LogDir not being used?  (It exists, and is writable by the user.)
