[mrtg] Has someone used MRTG to make monthly usage from logs?

Hello all, I was wondering if someone has successfully made a script
that takes the logs from MRTG and outputs them into a monthly
utilization string or graph.  I wasn't able to find anything on the web,
or I wasn't looking in the right places.  Please advise.
 
ps: for example we have a log of a fast Ethernet port on a cisco switch.
run a script to output the current usage of this month.  output would be
like something of '10.5 gigs'.
