Well, I am almost ready for my CCNP Switching exam, and I never heard of a 4006 that runs IOS. I think your confused with a sup3 card that is running IOS but the chassis itself runs CatOS.

Twofold:

First, I really meant to reply my "bah nevermind" to the post on the 95th
percentile.

So, not enough coffee made me reply to the wrong thread with a message
indicating that I didn't know what I was talking about.

However, on my 4006, I have IOS only and no CatOs as previously stated.

I run a Sup3, supports IOS only. There is no CatOS on my 4006.

4006 runs CatOS unless you are referring to a MSFC card, which is a layer 3
router card and runs IOS. With this card you can have two logical addresses,
the one for the layer2 CatOS and one for the layer3 IOS card. They are
independent of each other in that regard.

Are you certain you have SNMP enabled and that "public" is the correct RO
string? My 4006 is running IOS so the command is different, but this is
what I use:

snmp-server community public RO

All the router are running CatOS, but when I try to use cfgmaker as
indicated
(./cfgmaker --ifref=name --ifdesc=descr --descint --output=/var/mrtg/another
cat.cfg public at 172.30.3.1) it cause the errors messages :

--base: Get Device Info on public at 172.30.3.1
SNMP Error:
no response received
SNMPv1_Session (remote host: "172.30.3.1" [172.30.3.1].161)
                  community: "public"
                 request ID: 703847423
                PDU bufsize: 8000 bytes
                    timeout: 2s
                    retries: 5
                    backoff: 1)
SNMPGET Problem for sysDescr sysContact sysName sysLocation sysObjectID on
public at 172.30.3.1
--base: Vendor Id:
--base: Populating confcache
SNMP Error:
no response received

etc..

And a strange thing (for me) that it work fine withe the other routers 3548,
connected to the 4006.

Is anybody got an idea of what is wrong ?

Running IOS or CatOS?
Either way, cfgmaker does a fine job with:
./cfgmaker --ifref=name --ifdesc=descr --descint
--output=/var/mrtg/anothercat.cfg public at 10.10.10.10
