[mrtg] Re: scripts to take 5% off the utilization stats

Actually you hit the nail on the head.
I was hoping someone would admit to doing this.
Have you documented the procedure for manually updating the
MRTG code? Would you be willing to share it?
We run the 2.9.26 version. The last time I tried to manually
change the MRTG code, I still couldn't get it to work.
I am not a programmer so I'm not sure what I did wrong.

Thanks a bunch.

Mitch

Please excuse me if I have missed some of this thread, but I believe 95th
percentile can be integrated into mrtg. I am presently running v2.9.22 and
have patched the mrtg code to displayed the data collected by the 95.pl
script.

I admit I manually edited the mrtg code rather than use the patching
utility, but it follows the same approach. (ie. firstly open the
'target'.95 file and then include the data into the html, fairly
straightforward script comparissons).

One the whole this seems to work pretty well, so much so that we will be
using this to refine our billing approach.

Okay, let me try again.

1. Read the documentation.
http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/reference.html

Look at the avgpeak option.

2. Read this http://www.seanadams.com/95/

The 95.pl script collects the data. However, there is no solution for
integrating the
data into the new versions of MRTG. This solution only works with the
2.9.10 version of MRTG.

Hope this helps.

Mitch

Subject: [mrtg] scripts to take 5% off the utilization stats

Hi,

I noticed that ISP use MRTG to gather utilization stats, and take the
top 5% off, then charge for the remaining highest. I got a MRTG at my
end, but I don't know how to take the top 5% off the utilization stats.
Is there any script to do this?

Thank you in advance.
Jeff

Are you certain you have SNMP enabled and that "public" is the correct
RO
string? My 4006 is running IOS so the command is different, but this
is
what I use:

snmp-server community public RO

All the router are running CatOS, but when I try to use cfgmaker as
indicated
(./cfgmaker --ifref=name --ifdesc=descr --descint
--output=/var/mrtg/another
cat.cfg public at 172.30.3.1) it cause the errors messages :

--base: Get Device Info on public at 172.30.3.1
SNMP Error:
no response received
SNMPv1_Session (remote host: "172.30.3.1" [172.30.3.1].161)
                  community: "public"
                 request ID: 703847423
                PDU bufsize: 8000 bytes
                    timeout: 2s
                    retries: 5
                    backoff: 1)
SNMPGET Problem for sysDescr sysContact sysName sysLocation sysObjectID
on
public at 172.30.3.1
--base: Vendor Id:
--base: Populating confcache
SNMP Error:
no response received

etc..

And a strange thing (for me) that it work fine withe the other routers
3548,
connected to the 4006.

Is anybody got an idea of what is wrong ?

Running IOS or CatOS?
Either way, cfgmaker does a fine job with:
./cfgmaker --ifref=name --ifdesc=descr --descint
--output=/var/mrtg/anothercat.cfg public at 10.10.10.10
