i thought 1kbyte=1000bytes is used when getting traffic or BW and
1kbyte=1024bytes when getting disk utilization. because normally disk space
is determined by number of blocks where the conversion is "4096bytes/block"
so 4kbytes = 1block.

Could someone point me to some documents regarding the statement that 1000
= 1k and not 1024 = 1k. I have a  discussion with a friend who sais that
1MBps = 1024 Kbytes. I'm with the opinion that 1 Mpbs = 1000 Kbytes.

1024=1k is a valid measurement for computer storage
and memory. Not for communications. Communications
uses 1000=1k.  56,000 bits(56k)/8bits = 7000 bytes.

And that is not true. megabit = 1,000,000 bits = 1,000 kbits

If this is different on cisco equipment then it's *different*.
Kilo is 1024 (and mega is 1024 kilo) only when explicitly said so.
