Martin,

Truly diabolical and it looked most excellent as a solution. However it 
misses the mark just a bit. It is perfect for the logging function for 
errors. However I also use the thresh_script to post the alarm to a web 
page (create a file for a cgi to pick up). The problem is that the CLEAR 
function does not appear to operate given I have deleted the file (bummer). 
The CLEAR function removes the alarm file which the cgi picks up for 
display and therefore clear it from the web alarm page. So now I would have 
stale alarms.

A great try though, if you have any more thoughts I'd appreciate hearing them.
