[mrtg] Running MRTG as daemon

I am in the process of setting up mrtg to monitor multiple devices within my
environment.

I would like to run MRTG as a Daemon process under Unix, and I have a couple
of questions :

Do all the devices I want to monitor have to reside in one configuration
file. ?

How do I seperate devices that I want to poll every 1 min, 5 mins, 10 mins,
etc etc.  ? Do I 
run multiple mrtg processes ?

If I have multiple polling events, would it better to run mrtg as a cron job
as opposed to a daemon process ?
