Have you tried the perminute option? That sounds like it may be for you...

General Information:

I'm trying to use MRTG to graph a counter that slowly increments, but I only
want the change from last time, not what the 'gauge' option gives. From
what I've seen in the docs, it appears that when MRTG is set to graph in
this manner (which it seems to be by default and is the way that it handles
routers, etc) it uses something like the following formula:

(current_value - last_value) / time_elapsed

But my problem is that my counter increments quite slowly. In the 5 minutes
in-between readings, it may only increment by 1, which causes MRTG to read
it as 1/5. It appears that when MRTG reads a value this small, it doesn't
record it. I really want this to be recorded as 1, however.

What I'm specifically trying:

I have a Microsoft Exchange Server that I'm trying to monitor via SNMP and
MRTG. The Internet Mail Connector keeps simple Incoming/Outgoing counters
(among other things), but as mentioned above, these don't increment at a
fast pace. Following is the config options I'm trying to use:

-------- BEGIN PASTE ---------
Target[199.248.189.5_imc]:
1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1.22.20.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1.22.21.0:xxx at 199.
248.189.5
MaxBytes[199.248.189.5_imc]: 5000
Options[199.248.189.5_imc]: growright
ShortLegend[199.248.189.5_imc]: Msgs.
YLegend[199.248.189.5_imc]: Messages
Legend1[199.248.189.5_imc]: Incoming Internet Messages
Legend2[199.248.189.5_imc]: Outgoing Internet Messages
LegendI[199.248.189.5_imc]: In:
LegendO[199.248.189.5_imc]: Out:
Title[199.248.189.5_imc]: Internet e-mail for Acutex Exchange Server --
EXCHANGE3
PageTop[199.248.189.5_imc]: <H1>Internet e-mail for Acutex Exchange Server
-- EXCHANGE3</H1>
 <TABLE>
   <TR><TD>System:</TD> <TD>EXCHANGE3 in ACUTEX</TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Maintainer:</TD> <TD>Jacob Steenhagen</TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Ip:</TD> <TD>199.248.189.5 (exchange3)</TD></TR>
 </TABLE>

-------- END PASTE ---------

But it doesn't seem to record anything but 0's. To make things even more
complicated, whenever the computer or service is restarted, the counters
restart at 0. I'm not sure if this causes an issue or not, but thought I'd
mention it.
