[mrtg] Routing Table Size

Has anyone tried to use MRTG to graph the size of the routing table? 
Basically I am trying to find out the overall number of routes in the
routing table on for both BGP and OSPF on our Cisco routers.  As of
yet I have been unsuccessful in trying to get MRTG to display this
data, any information would be appreciated.
