Sometimes problems are so easy one tends to overlook the obvious.
Could it be that the number returned is in 1/1000 degrees centigrade?


And as a side note:  MRTG doesn't handle fractions.  38.99 will be
rounded down to the same number as 38.00 does.  Consider using RRDtool
to do this job or at least add 50 before dividing by 100.
