Hello Shawn,

Aboslutely. The matter you would want to be concerned about is latency
and it's affect how long it would take to deliver a response. You may
want to tweak some timeout parameters and put that in a seperate config
file (as to not hang other targets in a config file)

Also, be aware of the security implications. You are sending a password
(the SNMP community string) over a public inhsecure network in plain-text.
Make sure your SNMP implemenation is patched (see the recent security
warning: http://vegan.net/MRTG/snmpalert.php), that you use a seperate
community string for this, and make sure it is READ ONLY. Also, be aware
it's possible that someone can grab that password and possibly read stats
off that line, and potentially other nasty stuff (if the SNMP agent has a
security hole) Might want to use ACLs if you can.

Keep that in mind and realize it is a bit of an exposure, but nothing
glarringly bad. Otherwise, go for it.

Tony
