[mrtg] problem with community names

In a fit of security conscientiousness, I changed all my SNMP read
communities. MRTG doesn't seem to like my new community names which include
such characters as !@#$%^&*() and so on.

Which characters doesn't MRTG handle well? I assume MRTG doesn't properly
escape funky characters, so do I need to? Would I just use a \?
