[mrtg] libpng error

I have Mrtg 2.9.22 and am having a problem running it.  I get the following
error:

gd-png:  fatal libpng error: Invalid filter type specified
gd-png error: setjmp returns error condition

The system is RedHat 7.2 with the following installed:

gd-1.8.4-4
libpng-1.0.14-0.7x.3
zlib-1.1.3-25.7

Anyone know how to resolve this problem?
