[mrtg] MRTG and Counter Resets

I am using MRTG to graph the inbound and outbound message rates on my
Sendmail servers.  The Sendmail message statistics are reset to zero every
night at midnight.  MRTG doesn't seem to be dealing with counter reset well.
I see a huge spike in my graphs when the counters are reset.  Is there
anyway to configure MRTG to recognize the counter reset and ignore the data
until it is more 'reasonable'?
