[mrtg] Redhat 8 and MRTG

Hello:

I have used mrtg on Debian RH7.x and Solaris without any grief...but I am
having problems with running mrtg on RH8.

Here are my details.
RH8 x86
mrtg-2.9.17-8  (installed via rpm from Redhat 8 CD's)
net-snmp-5.0.1-6

mrtg.conf output
# Created by
# /usr/bin/cfgmaker --ifref=ip --ifdesc=ip --subdirs=malmo --output
/etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg public at x.x.x.x

This worked correctly and created the mrtg.conf file.

However when I run mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.conf this error message appears...
Malformed UTF-8 character (unexpected non-continuation byte 0xf0,
immediately after start byte 0xe0) at /usr/bin/../lib/mrtg2/locales_mrtg.pm
line 267.
Malformed UTF-8 character (unexpected non-continuation byte 0x20,
immediately after start byte 0xd7) at /usr/bin/../lib/mrtg2/locales_mrtg.pm
line 3934.

with different line numbers hundreds of times...?

indexmaker spits out this error, but writes the index.html file...

indexmaker mrtg.cfg > /var/www/html/mrtg/index.html
Can't locate package $VERSION for @MRTG_lib::ISA at /usr/bin/indexmaker line

        eval {...} called at /usr/bin/../lib/mrtg2/MRTG_lib.pm line 49

No bit counting is occuring when mrtg runs on the cron. Just the error
messages.

Any ideas/info on how to get this to work would be great. Thanks.
