It consolidates the data. You really have no
options with MRTG. Now if you use RRDTool, that's
a different story.

Basically, you've got 400 data points by default.
That can be changed to more or less, depending on what
you want, but you'll get 400 data points in all
data "spaces" :

5 minute increments
30 minute increments
2 hour increments
1 day increments

The 30 minute increments store the average of the
corresponding 5 minute increments divided by 6.

The 2 hour increments store the average of the
corresponding 5 minute increments divided by 24.

The 1 day increments store the average of the
corresponding 5 minute increments divided by 288.

You don't have any other options. The peaks for the
specific time periods are always stored. If you
choose, you can either display or not display that
information within the weekly, monthly, and yearly
graphs.

Go to RRDTool if you want more options. But, it
will still basically work the same way. Except
you'll have the option to have different "length" or
rows in each of the different parts of the rrd.

I have looked through the documentation, and I cannot find any specific
information regarding data consolidation. Does anyone know the details of
how mrtg consolidates data, and what options are possible?
