[mrtg] snmp help

I know this is not an snmp mailing list but we all use it to generate data so
maybe someone can help.

I used to have snmpd and mrtg working but I have not fiddled with it for many
months.  I am trying to use it again but my snmp connection is being
refused.  I cannot snmpwalk and, of course, cfgmaker won't work either.  What
very stupid thing must I be overlooking?

Is there a simple snmpd.conf file I need?  Is there a simple setting I may
have overlooked?
