[mrtg] Bandwidth Saturation Level or Future Trends

Is anyone enhancing MRTG by using linear or curve fitting trends to forecast
future saturation? Basically, I was wondering if anyone is doing trend
analysis or saturation levels by dumping data out of MRTG and then graphing,
plotting, or reporting in other tools, preferably using perl, ie gd::graph,
dbd::chart. The goals is to report future planning for circuit upgrades,
etc. I would like to test the water before I attempt a solo development
project.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
