[mrtg] Re: MRTG and Tivoli Netview

Here are some options that I can think of:
1. Collect data using MRTG on your host/core equipment. Use Netview to poll
remote equipment. That way the additional traffic across circuits is only
from Netview. ie. MRTG ->collect ATM 0/0.1 interface on local router.
Netview -> FrameRelay Serial 0/1 at remote site. (This works for us.)
2. Poll at different times. You can set a different polling cycle for either
Netview or MRTG.(MRTG every 5 minutes, Netview every 30 minutes). May need
to collect 64 bit counters if you are changing the polling time.
2. Use rrdtool instead and Netview's snmpColDump -T . Pipe snmpColDump data
into rrdtool. This would have to be a home-grown application. Sign up to
Netviews Lists for ideas: nv-l at lists.tivoli.com . Discover rrdtool at
www.rrdtool.org . Note: If you are using AIX, RRDs may not work. Try RRDp.
3. Stick with using MRTG & dump the data to import into the Tivoli product.
This may be the most aggressive solution, but could take Netview out of the
loop. Not even sure if it could work.
Happy venturing,
Rob

Subject: [mrtg] MRTG and Tivoli Netview

Hi List,

I am new to the list and still trying to figure stuff out. I was hoping that
someone could help with my question or point me in the right direction.

I would like to know if it is possible to get mrtg to read the snmp collect
raw data files from applications like NetView/HP NNM. I would ideally like
to use Netview to do all my snmp data collections and export this data to
Tivoli Data warehouse for trending/capacity reporting and use mrtg for the
realtime graphs. I however don't want two separate applications polling the
network? Has anyone done something similar?

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Pritesh
