[mrtg] mrtg-rrd undefined statistics

Dear All,
 
I'm currently trying to get mrtg-rrd working but when I try to launch the
cgi (either from web or command line) I'm getting the error
"undefined statistics". (Looking at the script has left me thinking that it
cannot determine some sort of directory listing?) mrtg seems to be pushing
data into rrd so I don't *think* that the problem lies at that level.
This error occurs whatever I put at the end of the URL. 
 
In addition, am I right in thinking that the 'resource name' referred to in
the documentation refers to the output file from mrtg?
 
I'm running RH9, mrtg 2.9.17, RRD 1.0.40, mrtg-rrd 1.23 (14mar) and perl
5.8.0.
 
Does anyone have any ideas, or just advice on how to access more debug info?
