Jan,
The broadcast monitor can help greatly when looking for bad NICs or a network issue.
I use a network monitor package to do that, and never thought of using MRTG for it..
It has help numerous times..

Jason,

I do monitor the NonUnicast packets in our vlan's. These are monitored
at the router module in the 6509's. 
I.m.o. it makes no sense to monitor the broadcasts at all the
interfaces.
