[mrtg] Keeping the Y Scale using bits

I selected the Unscale option so that my Y scale would display 1000 as the maximum value.  When I use bytes as my default traffic unit measure I get almost no data on my graph and then I tried the Options bits and I get data on my graph but my Y scale begins to vary and I loose my 1000 Y scale maximum value.  Any ideas?
