[mrtg] mrtg proccess consuming lots of cpu

Hi !!!
i am using MRTG 2.9.17 to monitor several hosts(20).
each host has a work-directory and a .cfg file.
i am launching a mrtg proccess running as daemon for each host. (interval 5
min.)
everything is working fine, but the cpu usage in the host doing the
monitoring
is very high.

How can i lower the cpu usage ??
