[mrtg] cfgmaker iref=name doesnt use intf name on Cisco switches

I have a switch 3524-XL, with version 12.0(5.4)WC(1)
and MRTG 2.9.25, I am using cfgmaker with the option
 --ifref=name set and it doesnt do anything different
from the default behaviour, does anyone has found
something like this? how is it solved?.
