[mrtg] Re: Config Maker (6509 temperature) (Update)

Hello All,

For those of you who were following this thread, this will probably not come
as a surprise...
I've been working with Cisco on this and they have changed the case to a
"bug" status (CSCea15900).
According to the TAC, there may be a problem with the associated code and
there is not an immediate fix.

I installed an environment monitor with a Dallas 18S20 sensor right next to
a 6509 switch and then put a space
heater in the cabinet to raise the temperature up from 65 to 85 degrees. As
usual, none of the intake or exhaust
temperatures change for the 6509 MRTG graphs. But, the graphs for the
environment monitor are all over the place.
In fact, the temperature and humidity in the cabinet fluctuate quite often,
even without the heater.

So, the bottom line is that the Catalyst 6000 environment monitors, using
either SNMP or CLI, are "unreliable".
If I here anything else from Cisco, I'll pass it along.

Thanks to Kerry Werry for pointing this problem out in the first place.

Kevin
