You need to upgrade to newest version and or you could do 
env LANG=C /usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg

That should work.

i am trying to run MRTG-2.9.17-8 on redhat 8.0. when i run
/usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg
i get the following error
