Check your crontab carefully you've got a > in there which overwrites your
config.

You're also missing some entries if you're trying to run this every 2
minutes.

Sure.

00,02,06,10,12,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,46,48,50,52,54,56,5
8 * * * * /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg > /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg.cfg
--logging /var/log/mrtg2.log #MRTG poll

this is it. It was originally working, but I redid it because of of the
files was not updating for some reason. Next time I looked this trunking
was happening. If you run that as just a command line it will do the same
thing.

/usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg.cfg

Sounds like your cron job could have the wrong command line. Can you show us
the crontab line in question? MRTG does not modify the config files when it
runs. Just a guess (and based on the lack if info here - a long shot at
best) you are running cfgmaker every 5 minutes, and not MRTG.

I had this working on an HP box but now I have a strange problem that I just
can't figure out. I make my config usring cfgmaker and the result is placed
where I want by the script.

-rw------- 1 root sys 67539 Feb 27 11:44 mrtg.cfg

after the cron runs the first run this file some how trunkates to this.

-rw------- 1 root sys 240 Feb 27 12:02 mrtg.cfg

All that is in that file is the header? The actuall config that sits south
of that is missing?

I cannot figure out why this is happening?
