I followed this thread and also the short thread entitled: "[mrtg] Re:
Error running MRTG", and both match my situation perfectly. I changed the
LANG setting in /etc/profile and /etc/sysconfig/i18n on my clean install of
rh8, and got the problem down to just:

gd-png: fatal libpng error: Invalid filter type specified
gd-png error: setjmp returns error condition

>From there, I couldn't clear the errors. Being a Linux newbie, I ran out of
ideas. I saw Larry Roberts' comment about the path to libpng being wrong.
That sounds like a good thing to check, but I confess I'm not sure how to
check that.

I went to rpmfind.net, and found that the latest listed RPM for RedHat 8.0
is mrtg-2.9.17-8.i386.rpm. I retrieved that package and downgraded from
2.9.25 to 2.9.17 and I am now running clean. I guess I'll be staying here
until there is a newer rh8 package ready.

It *would* be nice to upgrade to 2.9.25 (as I am ultimately trying to
convert my MRTG facility from Win2000 to Linux, and am running 2.9.22 on
Win2000). I was hoping to not have to downgrade. If anyone knows how to
circumvent the errors above, I would sure like to hear how you did it.
