Do you also have "gd" installed as well? I don't use Mandrake myself so I 
can't help to check whether you do or not, but on Redhat it's as simple as:

--
pc-linux% rpm -q gd
gd-1.8.4-4
--

The above may work on Mandrake too, although I'm not 100% sure. Also you may 
want to have a look at the URL below (which is the guide to installing MRTG on 
*nix and all it's required addon's).
