Check out a similar question I asked recently. You may find some good ideas
in there. The mailing-list archive is at: http://www.ee.ethz.ch/~slist/mrtg
The thread you may find useful is called: [mrtg] Re: Suggested Web
Subdirectories and Config File Setup and the original question is at:

I'm not far ahead of you. Trying to load MRTG in RH8, and being a Linux
newborn too...

Hello,
I have been running MRTG fairly successfully on Win2k for over a year. I
would like to try and run it over on a Linux Redhat 7.2 server.
I am fairly new to Linux or Unix so I am a little confused on where I
should
place the files.
Under windows I have an MRTG folder and I have inside of that a \bin file
and a \data file.
My \bin file holds all of the config files and all the executables.
The data file holds all of my .png files and the graph.html file
I run a few different instances of MRTG so I actually have a few data files
such as \data, \datalocA, \datalocB, etc
I would like to develop a clean file structure when I move to Linux and
since MRTG was already installed with Linux I am trying to find the correct
places to put everything. I have looked at the Instructions and documents
that I have found on the MRTG site, but they refer to using everything
under
the /home file structure.
The default html location under Linux appears to be under
/var/www/html/mrtg.
Do you just keep all of the data files and config files in this directory?
Could someone point me to a logical file structure to use with a new MRTG
installation under Linux 7.2?
Thank you,
