[mrtg] Re: Config Maker (6509 temperature)

I couldn't get it to work either. I had a 6500 sitting next to a liebert
UPS with a temperature monitor and the temperature changed all over the
place on the liebert whilst the 6500 was static.

On the other hand, the sh env temperature command has in the past given me
good data. I've written scripts to parse that output and toss it into mrtg
(in the distant past).

Kerry,

I haven't been graphing this stuff for a while, since my MRTG box crashed in
October and I
had to rebuild it but, good point, now that you mention it.
I've also got two identical 6509 switches in the same room with two
different input exhaust temps?? The temps do not seem to change (at least in
the last 30 SNMP gets).
I'm going to run this for a while and check the values.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin

I have used a similar config in the past and have just tried yours and while
the configs have always produced an graph I have NEVER seen the value
change..... Even during an AC failure the value stayed constant. Have you or
anyone else actually seen this work??

Hi,

Here is a config example for monitoring exhaust temp for slot 1. This works
on a 6509, so I'm assuming it will work on the 6513 as well. Note that the
temp is converted to Fahrenheit at the end. Just remove the * 1.8 + 32 at
the end of the target if you want Celsius.

Subject: [mrtg] Config Maker

Content-Type: text/plain

Ok... I have been reading up on MRTG for a while. I am having a couple of
issues with it, but I'll just address one here for now. This problem may be
obvious to everyone else, but for some reason I am just not getting it.

Let's say I have a Cisco 6513 switch with the following parameters.

IP: 192.168.1.1
RO Community String: grooving

Everyone here probably knows well and good that when I run config maker it
will only give me the configs for interface in/out info. What if I wanted
to monitor a different OID? Can I use config maker with an output variable
to do this or do I just have to know how to write the config?

Say I want to monitor the following OID (Just grabbing one as an example):

CISCO-SMI
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.2.1.1.2.9.9
ciscoMgmt.109.1.2.1.1.2.9.9
TempMon

Can someone please help? What I am actually trying to do is monitor air
intake temperature. We are in a very hot environment, the Middle East, and
this temp. would represent our ITN ambient temperature so that we can keep
our equipment from overheating.

Thanks for the help!
