Those are templates for use with Congig maker's --template parameter.  Check
the config maker manual for details on its use.  Essentially, config maker
will use that template to generate a config file, filling in those variables
with the correct items based on the equipment you are trying to poll.

I'm quite new in MRTG, so please be patient.
I would like to monitoring port traffic in a fore asx 1000 switch. I have
found a template in Somix web site but I have no idea how can I identify
each port.

What does $INSTANCE mean? What does it refer to?
Does 53 identify the port? Which hw port (1C1, 2A1...)does it correspond?
