Hi folks,

infraMon ( http://www.inframon.org ) has arrived as a shareware package.
It provides for many NMS-like features in a modular setting with a focus
on network infrastructure management. Most notable for this list is that
it builds topology maps which can be a slick front-end navigator to
14all/mrtg data (as well as a great topology reference). Here are a few
features:

- Dynamically build network topology maps from a device list (light
weight snmp for link info)
- Map line colors are based on link speed, utilization, or ping response
(from mrtg exports)
- Map lines and devices are direct hot links to 14all/mrtg data and
other functions
- Pre-builds mrtg configs to include utilization, ifErrors, ifDiscards,
Fecns/Becns
- Capable of DISTRIBUTED response monitoring (remote site to site)
- Preconfigured mrtg thresholds producing alarms
- Generic web based alarm monitor
- Device and link status poller
- Web based Cisco CLI query tools

The components are modular. For example, running of the status poller is
not required to produce mrtg config's and map navigation. In fact mrtg
is not required if all you desire are topology reference maps.

Currently I would like for seasoned network managers (as early adopters)
to give the package a try if interested. It involves a compile of gd and
a few perl modules (along with mrtg and rrdtool) and it is *nix based
only.

There is also a forum set up for discussions/questions at
http://www.micro-mess.com/forum/ (you'll need to register). So visit
http://www.inframon.org to get an overview and screenshots and let me
know what you think!

Cheers,
Woody...
