[mrtg] Disable averages?

I am trying to use mrtg to track spam messages via an external script.
However, when I know there were 10 messages that should be counted (the
script run manually returns 10), mrtg displays 9. I am assuming this is
mrtg performing an average over time.

Is there anyway to just have mrtg print the number returned, and not
average it? I have tried combinations of Options[foo]: gauge and
absolute, all with no luck...
