[mrtg] counter rollover

hello.

I am sure this must be the most asked question ever.
But the docs, the faq and google's answers eludes me this time

the problem is probably related to the 32 bit counter rollovers.
everytime the counter rolls, i get a downward spike to 0

most answers i'v seen either say use 64 bit counters. wich the device
don't support.
or don't use unknaszero, wich i do need.

are there any other solution to this problem ? 

would migration to rrdtool help ?
