[mrtg] Re: New Installation Question

No, mrtg.cfg is a valid name and it works; actually, when I tested the
command I inadvertently deleted (overwrote) *my* mrtg.cfg file and I had to
restore it from backup ;)

When I have a new server that I want to monitor, I use "perl cfgmaker
public at ipaddress --output ServeName.cfg" and I cut and paste the result into
my mrtg.cfg file.

I save all my *.cfg files, that way I know what I'm monitoring and stuff...

OK, that works. Really odd. Just changing the name of the .cfg file did
the trick. Does cfgmaker not like making mrtg.cfg or something?

I just tested it and it *does* work, it creates the file in the
directory
where you execute the perl command.

Try the same command again but name the output file something funky,
like
ThisIsMyFile.cfg and do a search for that.....

OK, so now I've issued the command:

perl cfgmaker public at 192.168.0.1 --global "WorkDir: c:\www\mrtg"
--output mrtg.cfg

And this still does nothing. It just outputs to the screen again, with
no CFG file.

Well, try it without and see what happens. If you look at the
nt-guide.html,
it shows the output switch without the "=". I think a W32 machine is
different for perl than a unix.

Are you sure about that? Here's a quote straight from the cfgmaker.html
page at MRTG:

--output=file output filename default is STDOUT

Oh, and no equal sign for the output switch.

Subject: [mrtg] New Installation Question

I just downloaded the latest version of MRTG. I followed the setup &
install directions on the Win32 page. The problem I have is that if I
issue the following command:

perl cfgmaker public at 192.168.0.1 --global "WorkDir: c:\www\mrtg"
-output=mrtg.cfg

I do not get a mrtg.cfg file. Where is this file stored? I searched my
entire hard drive, and the only mrtg.cfg files are in the mrtg contib
directory.
