Technically, you should have 2 more lines -- although they can both be
blank.  I usually make the next line blank, and the last line holds the text
status message.  However I think MRTG doesn't mind these next 2 lines being
omitted completely as here.

As people have already said, you should be using RRDTool for the data
storage as it can cope with <1 per sec.  Also add 'options[]: perminute' or
perhour so that you get more useful large numbers.  This should make it
work.
