[mrtg] spike -v- continum

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if there is an option I can use such that my graphs are spikes (for lack of a better term), then a continum line.
I'm monitoring errors on the router and if at the polling interval it hits 19 errors, I want to plot the 19, then if the next polling interval hits 5 - I'd like to plot the 5, without a graphing line/color connecting and shading in the area, but just a spike up to the plotted number?
I've read the manual and documentation over and over again, checked through the archives and cannot seem to find any discussion or research pertaining to my question.
Hope that makes sense. Thank you!
-Patricia
