Sounds like a job for rrdtool

With gauge it is completely understandable.  if you are monitoring
something that exists at a point of time, such as temperature, you would
be hard pressed to express temperature as degrees per minute

Absolute is so rarely used, I can see where no one would have thought
through using it with perminute.
