you can increase number of forks, but you must have enough memory.
Next you can tune SNMP. For example I use this option in cfgmaker:
--snmp-options=:::2::

You can run DNS server locally.
Very fast harddrives (15000 RPM) are very useful too.
1GB Ram or more is good too.
