what do you mean by "ip usage stats"? IP traffic volumewise or how many
IP addresses were seen?

For the first: if you have a router, divide interfaces in "internal" and
 "external" interfaces. Only look after "external" interfaces which are
those going to another router not in your network.

MRTG gives you an average in/out per poll intervall (typically five
minutes). From these Mbps in/outyou get MBytes by multiplying. Summing
up per day (week/month) gives you totals for Mbytes.
