[mrtg] mrtg problems

Dear all
Have got mrtg running fine on a mixture of Cisco kit .....but
every 3-5 days the process falls over and takes the linux server down.
In between it runs quite happily collecting data every 5 minutes from 
all the cisco kit (including the 3550s)
 From the 3 times it has happened it seems to always be when it is 
accessing a Cisco 3550
Error messages in the mrtg.log are:-

Started mrtg
2004-06-06 03:07:03 -- Started mrtg
2004-06-06 03:07:04 -- ERROR: Skipping webupdates because rateup did not 
return anything sensible
2004-06-06 03:07:04 -- WARNING: rateup died from Signal 11
  with Exit Value 0 when doing router 'st-core-1_44'
  Signal was 11, Returncode was 0
2004-06-06 03:07:05 -- Started mrtg
2004-06-06 03:07:05 -- ERROR: Skipping webupdates because rateup did not 
return anything sensible
2004-06-06 03:07:05 -- WARNING: rateup died from Signal 11
  with Exit Value 0 when doing router 'st-core-2_10'

Has anyone seen this happen before
I checked the archives and there seemed to be a few 3550 queries
