[mrtg] Aggregation problems.

I'm using the "proxy" directive with Net-SNMP to provide access to devices
not normally accessible by my MRTG monitoring box. I am mapping the root
of the device's tree to netSnmpPlaypen.1... I can query and generate graphs
just fine. However, this device has two serial interfaces that I want to
aggregate, and I can't seem to get the syntax to work when I am using OID's
instead of MRTG's interface aliases.
Here is the config I'm attempting:
Target[modesto-rtr_Inet]: 1.3.6.1.4.1.8072.9999.9999.2.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.1:comm at ip + 1.3.6.1.4.1.8072.9999.9999.2.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.2:comm at ip:
SetEnv[modesto-rtr_Inet]: MRTG_INT_IP="192.168.4.1" MRTG_INT_DESCR="Internet"
MaxBytes[modesto-rtr_Inet]: 384000
Title[modesto-rtr_Inet]: Traffic Analysis for Internet -- ip
PageTop[modesto-rtr_Inet]:
Traffic Analysis for Internet -- ip

However, MRTG tells me the results of this query are "non-numeric".
Will MRTG only aggregate using interface aliases? (1:comm at ip + 2:comm at ip)
Can it not be done with OID numbers?
Thanks,
Ray
