[mrtg] Upgrading mrtg on RedHat Linux 7.3

Hello folks!

Though I've been using Linux for a few years now, I'm still something of a
newbie when it comes to tinkering, so please forgive my stupid questions!

The version of mrtg that came with RH7.3 (as an rpm) was 2.9.17, but I
would like to "upgrade" to the current release (mainly to get the
"secondmean" option!)

My question really is whether I need to de-install 2.9.17 before
installing 2.11.1, or will they co-exist?

Ideally, I would ilke to have both available, so I can just update my
crontab to point to the new executable, then if it goes wrong, just swap
back to the old version.

make install puts the new executable in /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg by
default, which is in a different place from the RedHat-installed version,
so I assume I will be ok to keep both?

Any comments / advice appreciated!

Tim.
