You need to poll it from MRTG's perspective. Just make MRTG
call the external program. MRTG does some things before writing
out the log file (like making a backup, normailizing the data, etc.).
Plus, the graphs are created after MRTG finishes the poll cycle and
writes out the log. Then rateup is called to do the actual graphing.
Unless you are running RRDTool. Then the game changes quite a
bit.

I have some data that cannot be retrieved via SNMP. I would however

I have no problems getting the data into a *.log format. I have no
problem
updating that file every 5 minutes, with new data on top.
How would I call MRTG to just create a graph of the new data, without
trying
to do any polling of any kind?
