Since MRTG does an snmpget you have to use an oid that returns a value. Usualy this is the basic oid with an instance number added to it.
These instance numbers can usualy be found little higher in the mib-tree.

Depending on manufacturer instance numbers can be any number, but mostly when a system is brought up the first instance within an oid is 0 or 1. Some manufacturers seem to start at random numbers which can even change after a restart.

No Science. The only way to find out wich oids are available on a system is by using a MIB browser.
